Amaryllis may not bloom first year

Q. I received an amaryllis bulb for Christmas and I planted it according to the instructions. In about three weeks it began to grow. Eventually it produced five leaves about 20 inches long but no flower stalk. It still has the leaves and no signs of flowers.

Q, What has happened to the Harrison Jumbo steam engine purchased from the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich., several years ago by the Belleville Labor and Industry Museum? I have heard that this engine was severely damaged when it was dropped off a high trailer and the boiler was cracked.

Q. I have some very beautiful placemats and napkins that were a birthday present. The placemats are not cloth, but some kind of synthetic material. They are very, very nice. I was telling my aunt that I was planning to use them for a lunch for one of my girlfriends who is retiring.
