Q. My neighbor two doors down tried to use me as a baby sitter over the summer. She would send her son down to play, without my permission, and he would help himself to whatever he wanted from my garage. No one would bother to check on him and he never said "thank you" when he left.

Too many hors d'oeuvres

Q. We're about to put a dinner group together of three other couples. We'll meet again in a couple of months to finalize the details. We'll probably meet at each other's homes and take turns hosting. My husband and I were in a group like this when we lived in the South. One thing that always bothered me was when the group ate so many hors d'oeuvres that they really don't seem to enjoy or even eat much of the main course. The main course is what I spend hours on and the hors d'oeuvres are brought by one of the other couples. I am going to suggest we eliminate having hors d'oeuvres altogether. We can start with a drink or wine and then have dinner. How much of a breach of proper procedure would this be?

Q. Some dear friends of ours who have been having an annual fun Halloween party at their home for several years told us months ago to hold the 31st of October open for their party. Details would follow. the details arrived but instead of having it at their home, where we spent the night because of the distance, it is going to be at their newly acquired time share condo in Branson, Mo.
