Probe continues into motorcyle accident that killed Smithton man

The investigation continues into the motorcycle accident that killed a Smithton man early Wednesday on Illinois 15 near Illinois 159 in Belleville.

Sean Fischer, 29, of 313 Fieldview Drive in Smithton, was killed after his motorcycle struck a guardrail around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone. Fischer was traveling in the westbound lanes of Illinois 15 when he crashed one mile east of Illinois 159.

Fischer was pronounced dead at 3:05 a.m. of massive trauma. Fischer was not wearing a helmet, Stone said.

The accident, which involved Fischer and a second motorcycle, closed Illinois 15 between Illinois 159 and Green Mount Road until about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Illinois State Police have not yet released the name of the second motorcyclist and have not yet released details about the cause of the accident.
