A Caseyville woman suffered second- and third-degree burns Monday evening in a fire that damaged but did not destroy her Hill Road home, authorities said.

Elizabeth Moon was airlifted by Arch Air Medical Service to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Caseyville Fire Chief G.W. Scott said.

Firefighters were called about 6 p.m. to the scene at 706 Hill Road.

The injured woman was outside her home, and firefighters entered to find and bring out her dog. They performed CPR on the dog, a pitbull, but were unable to revive the dog.

French Village firefighters aided Caseyville firefighters.

Scott said the fire was contained to the living room, kitchen and hallway of the house, which sustained smoke and heat damage but was not a total loss. Firefighters pulled a damaged couch and chair outside.
