ST. LOUIS -- Once among the most despised goaltenders by St. Louis Blues fans, former NHL goalie Ed Belfour has been hired by the Blues as a goaltending consultant.

The move was announced Thursday by Blues President John Davidson.

"Ed is one of the winningest goaltenders in National Hockey League history and we're thrilled to have him on our staff," Davidson said in a release. "His knowledge of the position will be invaluable for our goaltenders in Peoria and our young goalies in our organization."

Belfour won a pair of Vezina Trophies during his 18 NHL seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose, Dallas, Toronto and Florida.

He posted a 484-320-125 career record with a 2.50 goals-against average and 76 shutouts. The 484 wins ranks third all-time behind Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy and Belfour is tied for ninth all-time in shutouts

He's also fourth all-time with 88 playoff victories.

Belfour won a Stanley Cup in 1999 with Dallas and played in three Stanley Cup finals. He made it in 1992 with Chicago and 1999 and 2000 with Dallas.

He last played in the NHL in 2006-07, making 58 appearances for the Florida Panthers. He also played 20 games in Sweden in 2007-08 for Leksands.
