A Lenzburg woman was killed on her way to work Monday morning when a pickup truck crossed the center line of Illinois 13 near Freeburg and struck her car head-on.

Frances S. Koon, 65, was driving a 2002 Kia Sephia north on Illinois 13 south of Red Ray Mine Road near Freeburg when a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Nicholas Wilson, 19, of Lenzburg, crossed the center line and struck her vehicle at 4:50 a.m., Illinois State Police Sgt. Stacie Horton said.

Wilson has been charged with driving under the influence.

Three passengers in Wilson's truck were taken to local and St. Louis hospitals. Wilson was extricated through the window of his vehicle by emergency responders and airlifted to St. Louis for treatment. Wilson's passengers ranged in age from 19 to 21.

No further information about their medical conditions was available Monday.

Police closed Illinois 13 in both directions near Red Ray Mine Road for several hours while they investigated the accident and had the smashed vehicles towed away.
