Local events honor Sept. 11 victims

Today, the country commemorates the eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Here are some events in the metro-east:

Remembering 9/11

Lindenwood University will honor those killed in the terrorist attacks at 9 a.m. Friday during a ceremony at the campus parking lot on the corner of West Main and 23rd Streets. Belleville leaders and Lindenwood community members will speak.

9/11 Boat Parade

A boat parade will begin at 6 p.m. at the Grafton Harbor, 215 W. Water St. The parade will proceed down the Mississippi River. For more information, call 786-7678 or visit www.graftonharbor.net.

TrentonFest

Illinois State Police Director Jonathon Monken will speak at a Sept. 11 recognition event at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Trenton. Food, rides and music will fill the evening from 4 to 11 p.m. The festival continues Saturday with a 5K run/walk, bicycle ride, firemen's muster challenge, parade and other activities from 7 a.m. to midnight.

Fishing Tournament

The sixth annual Patriots Day: Families, Kids & Fishtales will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Horseshoes Lake State Park near Pontoon Beach. Children ages 4-15 will participate in a fishing tournament. Other activities include a virtual fishing simulator, Illinois State Police safety demonstrations, Illinois Department of Natural Resources Wildlife education trailer and felt fish pond.
