Census 2010: A timeline

Census data dates

April 1: Census Day. Questionnaires mailed in March are filled out to reflect the people who lived in a household on April 1.

Dec. 21: Statistics released on the nation’s population, state populations and how many seats each state will receive in the House.

April: Census Bureau will have the final numbers, including population and housing unit counts nationwide, that will determine legislative redistricting.

June: Population counts released for 63 race categories, including American Indian and Alaska Native tribes

May 2012: Data released on household tenure and occupancy, population density.
