No one was seriously injured in an early morning house fire Wednesday in Cahokia.

Firefighters received a 911 fire call for a home in the 1100 block of St. Patrick Street about 8 a.m. Two women and two children were able to escape safely from the home before firefighters arrived but were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries, according to Cahokia Volunteer Fire Dept. Capt. Stephen Robbins.

Neighbors saw heavy smoke coming from the home and called the fire department. When firefighters arrived they found heavy fire in the basement and in the upstairs part of the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
