The Edwardsville Tigers ran their winning Southwestern Conference winning streak to 38 on Tuesday with a 59-31 thrashing of East St. Louis in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score indicates.
East St. Louis, with perhaps the second best player in the SWC in senior Joymesia Howard spending most of the night on the bench in foul trouble, stayed with the Tigers (15-0) for a quarter, but were blown out of the gym by the patience and disciplined Tigers.
Edwardsville faces another challenge on Thursday against a dangerous O’Falllon squad. And coach Lori Blade’s crew could possibly get pushed at the Highland Tournament in two weeks by Mater Dei and/or Nashville.
But once again in 2011-12, there doesn’t appear to be any challengers to the Tigers claim as the top girls basketball team in the metro east.
