Okawville and Marquette get top seeds in Class 1A girls regionals

The Okawville Rockets and Alton Marquette Explorers are the top seeds in the two local Class 1A girls basketball regionals..

Playoff pairings for both of the the small-school classes were released last Friday. The two large-school classes (Class 3A and 4A) will be released this coming Friday.

The Rockets are the favorite at the Marissa Regional, which also includes second-seeded Trico, third-seeded Marissa, fourth-seeded Steeleville, fifth-seeded Everado and sixth-seeded New Athens.

The Explorers are the favorites in the Metro-East Lutheran Regional, which also includes second-seeded Metro-East Lutheran, third-seeded Lebanon, fourth-seeded Gibault, fifth-seeded Madison and sixth-seeded Valmeyer.

The winners of the Marissa and Okawville Regionals will square off in the first round of the Hardin Calhoun Sectional on Valentine’s Day.

Okawville and Trico don’t meet in the regular season, and neither do Alton Marquette and Metro-East Lutheran.

Monday, Feb. 6

Game 1: (4) Steeleville vs. (5) Elverado, 6 p.m.

Game 2: (3) Marissa vs. (6) New Athens, 8:10 p.m.

Tuesday, Feb. 7

Game 3: (1) Okawville vs. Winner Game 1, 6 p.m.

Game 4: (2) Campbell Hill Trico vs. Winner Game 2, 8:10 p.m.
