Motorists should use extreme caution while dense fog shrouds the area this morning, coating some roadways with a thin layer of ice.
The National Weather Service says a dense fog advisory is in place until 9 a.m. for the entire region.
"Visibilities will fall to one-quarter mile or less," the weather service advisory says. "Driving will be losed du to the poor visibilities.
"In addition, with temperatures near and blow freezing, the fog may cause a thin layer of ice to form on untreated elevate roads, such as bridges and overpasses."
Motorists should drive more slowly because objects on and near roadways will be seen only at close range, the weather service says.
