Fairview Heights Police Youth Academy enrollment now open

Published: June 13, 2012

The Fairview Heights Police Department is accepting applications for its 37th annual Police Youth Academy this summer.

The program is for boys and girls in the seventh to ninth grades, or ages 12 to 15.

The 2012 academy will be held 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from July 9 to 20, excluding weekends, at Grant School in Fairview Heights.

In past years, participants learned about crime prevention, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and firearms safety, and have gone swimming, hiking and camping. The activities help build physical fitness, confidence and leadership skills.

Anyone who is interested must complete an application at the Fairview Heights Police Department, located at 10027 Bunkum Road, and pay a $50 program fee due at the time of application.

For more information, contact Fairview Heights Police officer Brian Zywicki at 489-2143.
