MILTON — Visitation and a funeral service will be held this week for a 27-year-old Belleville woman who died after an all-terrain vehicle overturned on her Friday in rural Milton.
Caitlin M. Kirschenman was a passenger on a Kawasaki Four-Wheeler that overturned and landed on both occupants about 11 p.m. Friday, according to the Pike County Sheriff's Department.
Kirschenman and her boyfriend, Thomas R. Druhe, were traveling along a bean field when the vehicle hit a pile of logs in the grass along the tree line.
Kirschenman was an assistant teacher at Lighthouse Learning Center in Cahokia. She graduated from O'Fallon Township High School in 2003 and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2009, according to her obituary.
Kirschenman was taken to Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield and later pronounced dead due to her injuries from the crash.
Police arrested Druhe, 24, of Granite City on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and he was released to Illini Community Hospital.
Visitation for Kirschenman will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 7 a.m. to the time of the funeral service on Wednesday at Schildknecht Funeral Home, 301 S. Lincoln Ave. in O'Fallon.
The funeral service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the same location.
Kirschenman is survived by her daughter, Lyla Thompson, of Belleville, and her parents and siblings.
Memorials may be made to the Lympedema Network or the Lyla Thompson Trust Fund.
