GRANITE CITY - A woman who had 30 animals in her home has been charged with animal cruelty.

Firefighters and Ameren officials were called to the home of Lisa Welborn, 56, at 2528 Roney Drive Thursday on a report of gas odors. Sheriff's deputies then located about 25 dogs and five cats in the house, none of which had proper vaccinations. The residence allegedly was contaminated with feces and urine, and was deemed unfit for occupancy.

Welborn was charged with animal cruelty. Madison County Animal Control took custody of the animals.
