O'FALLON — A stranded motorist was struck and killed on Interstate 64 early Sunday.
Illinois State Police reported that Tyler Staral, 19, of O'Fallon was struck by oncoming traffic after his truck apparently broke down by the side of the highway.
Police said Staral's truck was on the shoulder with its hood up when a Toyota Corolla traveling in the right lane approached at 2:12 a.m. Sunday.
The driver, 30-year-old Jennifer Williams of O'Fallon, told police that Staral stepped out into her lane, waving his arms. Her car struck him with the passenger side of the front end.
Staral was transported to Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
