Glen Carbon man killed when pickup hits overpass

Published: June 25, 2012

A 50-year-old Glen Carbon man has died as a result of a one-vehicle crash Sunday in Madison County.

The Madison County coroner's office reports that Carter L. Long was driving his 2003 Dodge Ram pickup on the on-ramp to northbound Interstate 255 from northbound Interstate 55/70 when his vehicle left the roadway and hit the concrete pillars supporting the overpass.

The crash happened about 2:50 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner Roger D. Smith.

Long had to be extricated from the wreckage by Collinsville and State Park firefighters. The crash is under investigation by Illinois State Police.

Warner died as a result of blunt chest and abdominal trauma. Routine toxicological tests will be conducted to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role.
