Caseyville, Columbia cancel fireworks displays

Published: June 29, 2012

The Caseyville Moose Lodge in Caseyville has canceled its poker run and fireworks display scheduled for Saturday. The events have been canceled due to the heat advisory and on the advice of the state fire marshal. A new date has not yet been scheduled.

Columbia also canceled it's annual Fourth of July celebration on the recommendation of the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department. The event was scheduled for Wednesday.

Columbia Fire Chief Mike Roediger and Mayor Kevin Hutchinson met with others and agreed that the current drought coupled with high temperatures posed a fire danger. All daytime activities related to the evening fireworks have also been canceled. There is no plan to reschedule the fireworks, picnic or other activities until next year.
