A 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Steven W. Brickeen, 29, was traveling southbound on Illinois 3 when it veered into the northbound lane and crashed head-on "for unknown reasons" with an oncoming Econoline van at 11:08 p.m. Saturday, according to the state police.

Brickeen was killed in the crash, along with his wife, Tiffaine, and their 4-year-old daughter, Mary Jane.

The father and daughter were pronounced dead at the accident scene, while the girl's mother was pronounced dead at Red Bud Hospital.

The van's driver, Stephen F. Wilkes, 44, of Maryland Heights, Mo., sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by air ambulance to a St. Louis hospital.

A 45-year-old passenger in the van was taken to a hospital in St. Louis County with non-life-threatening injuries, the state police announced.
