The Greater Belleville Chamer of Commerce on Wednesday will hold its annual Back(pack) to School Day at Belleville West High School.
Students from Belleville District 118, Belle Valley School District 119, Harmony-Emge School District 175, Signal Hill School District 181, Whiteside School District 115, Zion Lutheran, Blessad Sacrament, Cathedral, St. Teresa, Saint Mary-St. Augustine and Our Lady Queen of Peace elementary schools are invited to attend the event which runs from 5-7 p.m. While they're there, the kids will get their backpack filled with school supplies while parents can get information about local businesses from a variety of booths and displays.

Belleville Elks Lodge No. 481 has announced its 2012 physical and occupational therapy scholarship awards winners.
They are Sara Birk, James Heafner, Nicole Kaltwasser, Tanya Tepen and Christy Wafer of Belleville; Allyson Buehne of Highland; Megan McCormick of Godfrey; Hana Michael of Collinsville; Bradley Morr and Amanda Rzepczynski of Columbia; Jennifer Petz of Fairview Heights and Kaitlin Speichinger of Millstadt.
The Elks lodge also awarded its Legacy Scholarships to Katelyn Lanxon and Taylor Lundy, both of Belleville; its most valuable student award to Joshua Beliveau of Freeburg and it's Anton Schmidt Legacy Scholarship to Todd Grumley, Taylor Hormberg and Kelly Minor of Belleville.
The total amount of scholarships awarded was $31,975.
Southwestern Illinois College is offering Saturday registration for all classes so people with 9-5 jobs don't have to miss work to further their education.
Students can sign up for school from 8 a.m until 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 and 18, in addition to the regular weekday office hour for fall 2012 classes which begin Aug. 18.
Student services such as registration, counseling and financial aid will also be available at these times in addition to students being able to buy books, pay tuition and fees and get school ID cards made.
Each service will be offered at the Belleville Campus, 2500 Carlyle Ave., Red Bud Campus, 500 W. South Fourth St, and the Sam Wolf Granite City Campus, 4590 Maryville Road.

A free back-to-school concert and kids carnival will be held Aug. 18 at Shiloh United Methodist Church.
The concert, featuring Harvest Ministry Teams, will begin at 10 a.m. The kids carnival will follow. It includes a school supply giveaway, a petting zoo, a bounce house, a water slide, lunch ang games and prizes.
Another concert will be held at 2 p.m featuring Chris August.
The chuch is located at 210 S. Main Street in Shiloh. The event is offered in partnership with the Illinois Dept. of Public Health Center for Minority Health Services.
