CAHOKIA — Teachers and administrators of Cahokia School District 187 have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract.
Dave Comerford, spokesman for the Illinois Federation of Teachers, said the tentative pact was worked out Thursday afternoon and both the school board and teachers are working to gather for ratification votes.
"The teachers are going to vote on it at 4 p.m. Monday at the Knights of Columbus Hall," Comerford said. "We haven't heard the details from the school board. But we know they are trying to put together a special meeting, hopefully on Monday."
School administration members could not be reached about their plans Thursday night.
Comerford said both sides have agreed not to discuss the terms of the tentative deal until it is ratified. He could not say when school could be back in session.
District 187 was supposed to start school Wednesday. But with negotiations bogged down, administrators decided last week to push back the date that teachers report until Sept. 4 with the first day of classes scheduled to start Sept. 6.
