EDWARDSVILLE — A Caseyville man was indicted Thursday by a Madison County grand jury on a charge of drug-induced homicide in connection with the overdose death of a Maryville woman on New Year's Day.

Brian Petty, 33, is accused of delivering heroin to Gail R. Trexler, who was found dead at her apartment on Anthony Drive in Maryville on Jan. 1, according to a news release from the Madison County State's Attorney's Office.

She died as the result of a heroin overdose.

Petty had not yet been arrested on the charge as of Thursday, according to the news release.

Following an investigation by police officers from Maryville and the Illinois State Police, it was determined that not only had Petty supplied heroin to Trexler, but he also is accused of personally injecting her.
