John Hartman, the independent candidate running for the 13th U.S. House District, will give a speech at 4 p.m. Sunday in Edwardsville.
The speech will be held at the bandstand next to the Edwardsville Public Library at 112 S. Kansas St. In the event of rain, the speech will be inside the library.
Hartman, of Edwardsville, said he will talk about political reform, the budget deficit, the environment, foreign policy and health care.
Hartman, Rodney Davis, the GOP nominee, and Dr. David Gill, the Democratic nominee, are vying to represent the newly drawn 13th District in the Nov. 6 election. The district stretches across 14 counties from Madison County in the west, to Champaign County near the Indiana border, and includes Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Maryville and parts of Collinsville. They are seeking the seat held by incumbent U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson, R-Champaign, who is retiring to spend more time with family after 11 years in office.
