Maria Elizabeth Baran, daughter of Ronald and Eloise Baran of Maryville is engaged to Patrick Edward Hasenstab, son of Donald and Barbara Hasenstab of Belleville.

Maria is a graduate of Rosati-Kain High School. She earned a communication degree from St. Louis University and a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University. She is a journalist at the Belleville News-Democrat.

Patrick is a graduate of Belleville West High School. He earned a math degree from McKendree University and a master’s degree in statistics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is a math teacher and coach at O’Fallon Township High School.

They are planning a Nov. 17, 2012 wedding.
