Eddie Lee Jackson
East St. Louis
Job: State representative
Phone: (618) 271-6670
Education: B.S. in education, SIUE; Master's in city planning, SIUE
Previous offices: Middle school principal, City Council member
Qualifications: I am proud to have dedicated my life to helping others, and to helping our communities, whether it was my time as a principal or my service on the city council. I have learned a great deal from the people, what their priorities are, and I am better able to represent them. I share the priorities of local families: job creation, economic development, stronger schools, safer streets and equal opportunity for every person. While we have been making progress, there is more work to do and I remain committed to doing what's right and necessary for those I represent.
Top issues: Job creation remains job one. That means working for strong public-private partnerships, pursuing innovative ideas in green collar industries and jobs that can't be outsourced to other nations. This also means we should invest in rehabilitating our roads and bridges, many of which were built in the 1950's and 1960's. Upgrading our infrastructure not only makes us more business-friendly, it also creates jobs and purchasing power that will help local businesses thrive. I am proud to have fought for local projects in the recent infrastructure construction program.
