Education:
Previous offices: Alderman, Belleville City Council
Qualifications: I have a record for getting things done -- it's time to send a problem solver to Springfield, not a problem maker. My experience and record on the Belleville City Council has prepared me to serve the metro-east in Springfield. My current status as a minority party member on the Belleville City Council has afforded me opportunities to effectively work toward lowering taxes by eliminating a wheel tax and offering the citizens a rebate with no reduction in services. I have insisted on following the law and saw a first-ever TIF meeting held for each district in Belleville. In addition, we redistricted for the first time in more than 30 years. Meetings are currently recorded by a volunteer and placed on YouTube, but we are working toward broadcasting them on cable. Furthermore, citizen participation has dramatically increased, and discussion of the people's business now takes place publicly, not behind closed doors. My record of getting things done will serve the metro-east well in Springfield.
Top issues: The top issues in this race are taxes, jobs and state spending. The voters in the 113th District which includes all or parts of Belleville, Fairmont City, Fairview Heights, Granite City, Swansea, and Washington Park have a choice to make in this election. Do we continue with the tax and spend policies of Pat Quinn and my opponent? Or do we elect a new leadership like myself that will oppose Gov. Quinn's agenda in Springfield. I pledge to repeal the 67 percent Quinn-Hoffman tax hike, support legislation to improve our business climate in order to save and keep jobs in Illinois and will vote to reduce wasteful spending in Springfield. Our state government is broke and I am ready to fix it.
