Kmart will close its store in Fairview Heights by the end of the year.
According to spokeswoman Kim Freely, of Kmart corporate parent company Sears Holdings Corp. in Hoffman Estates, Ill., the company has decided to not renew its lease at that store, located at 6525 N. Illinois St. She said the company has not been confirmed why the move was made.
Kmart has operated the store in Fairview Heights since 1998.
