Job: Foreign language teacher, Southwestern Illinois College
Education: B.A. in French and Spanish; M.S. in Education
Previous offices: City of Belleville Ward 8 alderman, 1999-2011
Qualifications: I have had the privilege of serving as alderman in the City of Belleville for 12 years. During that time I had the opportunity to work with many citizens and representatives of the business community, along with members of different political parties, and have dealt first-hand with the problems and concerns of the residents that I served. This has provided me with valuable experience in working cooperatively with both the public and governing bodies in order to resolve people's issues and effectively address their concerns.
Top issues: I believe we need more financially responsible marketing and promotion of MidAmerica Airport. We need to attract not only commercial airlines, but also private aircraft, in addition to continuing to develop the airport's strategic location as an air cargo hub. Incentives such as reduced landing fees for a set period of time should be offered instead of upfront cash giveaways for advertising, without any guarantee of performance or longevity on the part of the airlines. We also need to strive for more transparency in government, along with fair and equitable tax assessments for everyone.
