Qualifications: I have been a member of the St. Clair County Board for the past 15 years. I currently chair the property and recreation committee, and serve on the finance, highway, grants, economic development and the emergency readiness committees. During that time I have served my constituents by lowering general fund property taxes every year I have been their representative. The current general fund tax rate is less than 50 percent of its legal maximum, and I have also provided the leadership necessary to lower the county budget by 17 percent during the past three years. Additionally, I have successfully expanded economic development for both my county board district and other county areas, upgraded and expanded various county roads, ensured timely snow removal, facilitated the passage and activation of the multi-county levee protection council, created new parkland and recreational opportunities and expanded various bike trails. Achieved Level 1 status in certified county official program through University of Illinois Extension.
Top issues: The top issues are always controlling public spending, lowering property tax rates, providing for public security, and ensuring the levees are upgraded and certified to provide a minimum of 100-year flood protection. The current plan by FEMA to decertify the levees and thereby increase flood insurance rates is completely unacceptable. Additionally, I plan to do everything I can to protect Scott Air Force Base from a reduction in force or closure, and try and mitigate the problems of reduced state reimbursement for vital county services and costly mandates that put constant pressure on local budgets. As always, I will maintain a high profile within the community and make myself available to help constituents with their government-related problems.
