A Shiloh couple faces felony charges after police said they beat their 3-month-old son, causing serious injuries.
Brent M. Hampsch, 26, and Karey F. Hampsch, 20, both of the 300 block of North Main of Shiloh, were charged on Thursday with aggravated battery to a child causing great bodily harm. They are being held in the St. Clair County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail each.
Shiloh police were called on Aug. 26 by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services about a 3-month-old baby who was admitted to the Cardinal Glennon Hospital with multiple injuries.
The charges state that on Aug. 23, Karey Hampsch forcible grabbed and pulled the left leg of the baby causing a fracture. The charges against Brent Hampsch stated that he "forcibly grabbed and shook" the baby causing fractures to the upper left arm.
The baby's injuries are serious but not life-threatening, officials said. DCFS has taken custody of the child.
DCFS continues to investigate that allegation of abuse, said DCFS spokesman Jimmie Whitelow.
But this isn't the first time Brent Hampsch has been investigated by DCFS. In December 2011, DCFS received allegations that Brent Hampsch abused another child, Whitelow said. Those allegations were not substantiated.
Brent Hampsch is also the father of a 5-year-old son.
