3 metro-east businesses caught selling alcohol to minors

Three businesses in Madison County were caught selling alcohol to minors during a sting operation Friday.

Employees at SuperValu in Troy, Phillips 66 Gas Station in Troy and Walgreens in Glen Carbon all sold alcohol to a minor. Store employees Donald J. Callahan, Erica A. Burraughs and Trudy V. Neely were arrested for unlawful delivery of alcoholic liquor to a minor, a misdemeanor. All were released pending a notice to appear in court.

Illinois State Police Countermeasure Enforcement conducted the sting operation Friday night and surveyed 23 businesses in Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Maryville and Troy.

The operation was funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
