A Granite City man has been charged with aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer for allegedly running from a traffic stop.
At about 3:15 a.m. Monday, a Madison County Sheriff's Department deputy tried to pull over the suspect, identified as Delancey D. Haynes, 48 of 2233 Madison Ave., at the intersection of 14th Street and Madison Avenue after it was noticed that he had a suspended registration.
Sheriff's Department Capt. Mike Dixon, said Haynes ignored the deputy's lights and siren, heading northbound on Madison Avenue into Granite City. While fleeing from the deputy, Dixon said Haynes ran the stop lights on Madison Avenue at 21st and 23rd streets before turning into an alley in the 2300 block of Madison and stopping at his home.
Haynes was also issued traffic citations for driving with a suspended license and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration.
Judge James Hackett set Hayes' bond at $25,000.
