EAST ST. LOUIS — Two days after he allegedly stabbed to death his 26-year old son, the St. Clair County States Attorney's office charged an East St. Louis father with first-degree murder.
Anthony Knight Sr. was charged Saturday with the stabbing death of his son, Anthony Knight Jr. Police said the pair got into an altercation Thursday night, and Knight Sr. stabbed his son, resulting in the son's death a short time later at a St. Louis hospital.
A St. Clair County judge set bail for Knight at $1 million. He was being held Saturday in an East St. Louis jail cell and will be taken to the St. Clair County Jail on Monday, East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Floore said.
East St. Louis Assistant Police Chief Ronald O. Ike said police went to the Knight residence located at 7020 State St. on Thursday night to investigate a report of someone being stabbed at a residence.
When officers arrived, they found the decedent, who was later identified as the suspect's son, lying on the floor. He had been stabbed multiple times, Ike said.
Police did not comment on a possible motive.
