A driver who fled from police smashed into a Granite City home Tuesday just before 8:30 p.m.
Lt. Ray Takmajian said a Granite City police officer was making a routine traffic stop when the driver fled the scene.
Police did not chase the driver, according to Takmajian. The suspect then crashed into a home in the 3200 block of Kilarney Drive. Takmajian said the suspect was taken into police custody.
Granite City Police are continuing to investigate why the driver fled. "We don't know yet," Takmajian said.
One person was transported from the crash scene to a local hospital. However, Takmajian said he wasn't sure if it was the driver of the car or someone inside the residence.
