Published: October 9, 2012

A special committee tasked to review the city's proposed crime-free housing ordinance will meet for the third time at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the City Council Chambers at Belleville City Hall, 101 S. Illinois St.

During the last meeting, task force members reached a consensus that landlords should be required to conduct criminal background checks on new tenants. The task force will continue to discuss this segment of the proposal.

The task force consists of eight aldermen, landlords, residents and members of neighborhood and real estate associations. The task force will review the proposal and then make recommendations to the City Council.
