U.S. Rep. John Shimkus, R-Collinsville, threw his support behind his longtime aide Rodney Davis on Wednesday in Davis bid to represent much of the area that Shimkus once served.
Shimkus joined Davis and Madison County Recorder Matt Rice Wednesday in Edwardsville, a city that Shimkus represented for 16 years and Davis now hopes to represent in the new 13th Congressional District. Davis was nominated in May to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson in the race, opposite Democrat Dr. David Gill.
Davis has worked for Shimkus for 16 years, primarily in constituent service. Shimkus said he had absolute trust in Davis and fully endorsed him for Congress. I would trust Rodney Davis with the raising of my children, Shimkus said.
