Metro-east schools get more than $500,000 in state assistance

More than half a dozen local schools districts will receive state assistance for maintenance and improvements.

Seven St. Clair County school districts will each receive $50,000 in state grants, the maximum amount allowed under a state matching fund used to supplement school maintenance programs, Sen. James Clayborne, D-Belleville, announced Thursday.

The school districts are: Belleville School District 118, Cahokia School District 187, East St. Louis School District 189, Harmony-Emge School District 175, O'Fallon Community Unified School District 90, Shiloh Village School District 85 and Signal Hill School District 181.

Sen. Bill Haine, D-Alton, also announced Thursday that five Madison County school districts have received a total of $250,000 in state assistance for maintenance and improvements.

Alton School District 11, Bethalto School District 8, East Alton-Wood River Community High School District 14, Roxana School District 1, and Collinsville School District 10 each received $50,000 in state grants.

The grants may be spent on a variety of projects, including building renovations or repairs, parking lot improvements, and asbestos removal.
