Richard (Dick) & Muriel nee Garvin Petrowich celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 28, 2011 with an open house at the New Athens Multi-purpose Senior Center hosted by their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. They met while attending the University of Illinois and were married August 26, 1961.
Dick is a retired teacher, having taught Vocational Agriculture in the New Athens school system for 35 years. Muriel is retired as a cafeteria worker in the same system and homemaker.
They have 3 sons: Timothy (Amy) of Marion, Jeffrey (Trudy) of Ramsey, and Gregory (Laura) of Carbondale. They have 12 grandchildren: Amanda (Jason) Deatherage, Andrew (Breanna), Alyssa, Aaron, Allen, Macayla, Michael, Casey (Fernando) Sanchez, Maverick & Sarah, Nathan & Kris Hetzer, and 4 great-grandchildren: Alexander Sanchez, Noah Deatherage, Kalli Jo Petrowich and Dillan Hetzer.
