Edwardsville's Emmonie Henderson has given a verbal commitment to attend the University of Louisville and compete in women's basketball and track.

Henderson, who also considered Purdue and Tennessee, visited Louisville's campus over the weekend.

A 6-foot-2 center in basketball, Henderson averaged 15.6 points and 6.2 rebounds last season in leading the Tigers to a second-place finish in the Class 4A state tournament.

Henderson set a Class 4A record for rebounds in a state tournament game with 20 in the semifinals.

Henderson is a three-time state champion in the shot put and a two-time state champion in the discus. She won the shot put and the discus last year in leading the Tigers to the Class 4A state championship in track.

Southwestern Illinois College sophomore point guard Janelle Cannon also has given a verbal commitment to join the Cardinals' women's basketball program for the 2013-14 season.

The Cardinals are currently ranked ninth in both The Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Women's Baskeball Polls as they return four starters from a squad that posted a 23-10 record and received a berth to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in the last seven years.
