The top administrator of Edwardsville School District 7 has issued an apology over a costume worn by a student to school on Halloween.
According to Superintendent Ed Hightower, a freshman student wore a sombrero and a poncho and carried a prop green card as part of his costume as a "Mexican immigrant."
The student's costume was apparently not found to be offensive by the majority of his fellow students who chose it as the funniest outfit in Edwardsville High School's costume contest.
But Hightower, who was not at the costume contest, called the costume "unfortunate" and said it shouldn't have been allowed.
The student was not identified.
