Bill Enyart, the Democratic nominee for the 12th Congressional District, stopped in Mount Vernon and Marion on Saturday as part of his five-day tour of the district.
U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello, D-Belleville, joined Enyart on the tour.
Southern Illinois needs Gen. Bill Enyart because he will fight for Scott Air Force Base, good jobs, and a strong middle class, Costello said in a news release.
Enyart, a Belleville attorney and former commander of the Illinois National Guard, is competing in the Nov. 6 election with GOP nominee Jason Plummer, a Fairview Heights real estate developer, and Green Party nominee Paula Bradshaw, a Carbondale emergency room nurse.
The three candidates are seeking to succeed Costello, who is retiring after 24 years in office.
