Lopinot, Cruse win in the 20th Judicial Circuit race

Belleville lawyer Ron Duebbert, a Republican, was defeated in his bid for a circuit judge seat by St. Clair County Associate Judge Vincent Lopinot, a Democrat.

"I appreciate what the voters did to me," Lopinot said. "I was a good race and I think that we did well. I think the voters recognized my experience and my community involvement and I appreciate their support."

With 196 of 206 St. Clair County precincts reporting, here are the latest vote totals Lopinot received 61,047 votes to Duebbert's 40,126. In final vote totals for Monroe, Washington, Perry and Randolph Counties, Lopinot received 18,866 votes. Duebbert received 16,604 votes.

Democrat Zina Cruse, a sitting associate judge, defeated her Republican challenger Laninya Cason, also a sitting associate judge.

"I am very excited that the voters of this circuit have spoken," Cruse said. "I will do my very best to live up to their expectations and more."

The two associate judges squared off in the circuit judge vacancy left by the retirement of Circuit Judge Milton Wharton.

With 196 of 206 St. Clair County precincts reporting, Cruse received 57,378 votes. Cason received 43,366 votes. In final vote totals for Monroe, Washington, Perry and Randolph Counties, Cruse received 19,966 votes. Cason received 23,558 votes.
