Incumbent William Haine was leading challenger Mike Babcock with partial returns in the race for state representative in the 56th Illinois Senate district.

The latest vote totals:

William Haine (D): 48,288

Mike Babcock (R): 33,116

Haine is former Madison County state's attorney and lives in Alton. Babcock is a small business owner who lives in Bethalto.

The district covers much of Madison County and a small sliver of St. Clair County.
