Incumbent Kyle McCarter was leading challenger Danny Stover with partial returns in the race for state representative in the 54th Illinois Senate district.

With 223 of 247 precinct reporting, the latest vote totals:

Kyle McCarter (R): 52,453

Danny Stover (D): 30,700

McCarter was appointed to his position in 2009 and lives in Lebanon. Stover is a retired college professor and lives in Centralia.

The district covers parts of eight counties including Clinton, Bond, Fayette, Washington, St. Clair and Madison.
