Veterans' Day Observances
O'Fallon Observance -- 11 a.m. Saturday, Veterans Monument, 737 E. Wesley Drive, O'Fallon. Brig. Gen. James C. Vechery will speak. Participants include fifth-grade classes of O'Fallon District 90, Estelle Kampmeyer and Marie Schaefer schools; O'Fallon Township High School ROTC; VFW Post 805; Marjorie Ballard, widow of Norris Ballard, World War II POW; and Miss O'Fallon Kylie Evgenides. Names of veterans newly inscribed on the monument will be introduced. Veterans are encouraged to wear medals and decorations. Bring lawn chairs. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be in the community room of the Public Safety Center.
Veterans Day Memorial -- 11 a.m. Saturday, Wishing Well Ministry, 204 John St., State Park Place, Collinsville. Service in memory of Brother William "Bill" Providence, of Caseyville, who was a bridge building pioneer under Gen. George Patton. Presentation of U.S. Flag to son Bruce Providence, a Vietnam War veteran. Hot dogs, coffee, soda and chili will be served. Prayers, plantings of mums and a rose bush.
Belleville Ceremony -- 11 a.m. Sunday, Public Square. The Colors will be presented by the Scott AFB Honor Guard. Retired Air Force Master Sergeant Bob Ellison will sing national anthem and "God Bless the USA." Kim Enriquez, principal of Henry Raab School, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The main speaker is Lt. Gen. Darren McDew, commander of the 18th Air Force at Scott AFB. The Veterans Wreath will be placed by Dennis Hermann, Garry Ladd, Richard Piper and Jon Stacy of the Civil War Living History Regiment. Brad Penet of the Belleville Police Department will play "Taps." Harlan H. "Skip" Ferry Jr. will serve as the emcee.
East St. Louis VFW -- 11 a.m. Sunday, Vietnam Memorial, Lincoln Park, 1600 Tudor Ave., East St. Louis. VFW Post 3480 will host the ceremony. After the ceremony, proceed to Club Legacy at 5900 State St. for a free brunch sponsored by the post and Women's Auxiliary. Information: Quartermaster Percy McKinney, 618-271-7004.
Veterans Day Service -- 9 a.m. Sunday, Scott VFW Post 4183. Guest speaker is retired U.S. Air Force Col. Samuel Douglas.
Veterans Day Ceremony -- 10 a.m. Monday, Mascoutah High School auditorium. The event is sponsored by Mascoutah Mayor Jerry Daugherty and the Cadet Corps of the high school. The JROTC Honor Guard will post colors. The school show chorus will perform the national anthem followed by an invocation from Cadet Sean Caisse. JROTC senior cadets Darnell Burton and Veniece Gomez will serve as co-narrators. Remarks from Daugherty and St. Clair County Board member Charles Lee will continue the theme of the ceremony. The high school band and the JROTC drill team will perform. The guest speaker will be Dr. Don Clair, a 1969-1977 U.S. Army veteran who served with the 20th Engineer Brigade in Vietnam. Cadet Paul Murphy will conclude the ceremony with a bagpipe performance.
Collinsville Parade -- 10:30 a.m. Monday. Starts at Woodland Park, down Vandalia to American Legion Post 365, 1022 Vandalia St. Ceremony and a free lunch for the public will be at the post.
