Police officer's handgun stolen during Fairview Heights burglary

A metro-east police officer's department-issued handgun along with other items were taken from the officer's home in Fairview Heights.

The Fairview Heights Police Department received a call from a complainant, a police officer from another jurisdiction who resides within the city of Fairview Heights, who reported that his residence was burglarized and several items were removed from his home at about 10 p.m. Nov. 1.

Officers arrived on scene and it was determined that the suspects gained entry through a back bedroom window. The complainant determined that his department issued Glock handgun, a personally owned AK-47 rifle, jewelry and two bulletproof vests were taken.

To preserve the anonymity of the officer, no personal information about him is being released by Fairview Heights police.
