Geralyn Wolfersberger, 56, was pronounced dead at 2:36 p.m. at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, according to a news release from Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn.
Wolfersberger was driving north in the 300 block of Troy-O'Fallon Road about 12:50 p.m. when her car entered the oncoming lane of traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle.
She was extricated from the wreck and transported to the hospital. She suffered blunt abdominal and chest injuries.
Two passengers in the southbound vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation; routine toxicology testing will be conducted, Nonn said.
