Worker killed when he's hit by 4-ton propeller at barge repair company

Police and fire officials responded to an accident Thursday night at a marine transportation repair company in Hartford, a small town near Wood River.

KMOV reports a 23-year-old man was killed when he was hit by a four-ton propeller. Workers were attempting to remove the propeller when the man was struck, according to KMOV.

The accident occurred about 5 p.m. Thursday at National Maintenance and Repair, Inc., located in the 400 block of South Hawthorne Street.

A worker who answered the company's phone Thursday night said she couldn't comment on the accident.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
