Belleville blotter: Pair arrested after trying to start fights at gas station

Published: November 16, 2012

The following report appeared in the most recently released crime blotter by the Belleville Police Department:

Thursday

9:06 p.m. PEDESTRIAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE /RESISTING A PEACE OFFICER - 1st block of E. Van Buren. Shawn Steele, 21 and Anthony Vaughn, 27 were taken into custody after the clerk from Amoco (1 S. Belt E.) called and stated they were trying to start fights with her customers. When officers arrived, Steele and Vaughn fled the scene. Officers told the subjects to stop at which point Vaughn complied. Steele continued to run until he was stopped by officers. Steele refused to comply with officer's commands and cursed at officers. Steele attempted to pull away from officers but was taken to the ground and handcuffed. Both subjects were transported to headquarters and held pending bond.

Readers are reminded that an arrest or charge does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination. For more police blotter news, read tomorrow's print edition of the Belleville News-Democrat and return to bnd.com.
