An Alton duo has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of distributing the heroin which caused the death of a 23-year-old Alton man, according to U.S. attorney Stephen R. Wigginton.
Tyrone L. Adams, 33, and Cara L. Moss, 26, were arraigned Friday in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis. Both defendants are being held without bond in federal custody.
Adams and Moss are scheduled for jury trial on Jan. 22. If convicted, both face a maximum possible sentence of life in prison.
Adams and Moss allegedly distributed heroin on Aug. 20 to Leonard O. Hormann III, according to the indictment. Hormann died later that same day, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors also accused Adams and Moss of "maintaining drug-involved premises" at a residence on Powhattan Street in Alton between June 1 and Sept. 5. The residence in Alton is within 1,000 feet of a school.
The investigation was conducted by the Alton Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
